The Vocational Rehabilitation Centre of PSRD provides self employment opportunities to destitute and disadvantaged disabled men and women through the provision of micro credit.

During 2006-2007, PSRD helped 33 deserving disabled persons to stand on their own feet by sanctioning an amount of Rs. 734,000 at a nominal service charge of 2.5 percent. This includes Rs. 320,000 provided by M/S-ORIX Leasing Co. The recovery for the year under review was at a very encouraging rate of 98.5 percent.

This centre also helps deserving disabled persons by providing wheelchairs, tripods, crutches and sewing machines as donation. This year 13 wheelchairs, 7 walkers, 4 pairs of crutches, 1 sewing machine, 1 tripod and one commode chair was given to deserving persons after verification.

A special award ceremony was organized by the centre which was presided over by Mr. Ghalib Nishtar, the President of Khushhali Bank of Pakistan. Also present at the occasion were members of the Executive Body of PSRD, various NGOs, government agencies and eminent citizens. A number of disabled persons who have availed the loan facility were also present and a few of them spoke about their experience and how they were successful in running their enterprises with PSRD’s help. Trophies were given to outstanding enterprising loan clients. The remarkable achievement of a disabled client who is bereft of both hands and one leg, and who has made beautiful paintings was specially appreciated.

Mr. Ghalib Nishtar lauded the services of the Vocational Rehabilitation Centre and was all praise for the wonderful work done by PSRD. He promised to consider provision of loans to disabled persons on special terms.
