PSRD High School

The academic session of the school is from August to June. During the year total number of students was 220. This year eight students appeared for the Matriculation examination and the result was 98.95 percent.

 

Workshops

 

School teachers attended different workshops including Management of Children with Cerebral Palsy at National Institute of Special Education (NISE), Islamabad, written and spoken English, juvenile delinquency at District Prison Training Camp, and hearing links training program at Hamza Foundation. A German occupational therapist Mr. Rafik Nathani conducted a workshop for teachers.

 

Co-Curricular Activities

 

Election of Head Boy, Head Girl and House-Captains was held in September 06. An inter-house debate competition was organized by the school management. The topic was “Yesterday was better than today”. One of the two PSRD students, Miss. Sonia Aslam, got first cash prize of Rs. 1,500. Thirteen students took part in a drawing and painting competition organized at Children Complex on the topic, “Pak Iran Friendship”. They got various prizes and certificates. Two students Salman Shabbir and Sonia Aslam took part in a speech competition “An Excellent Teacher” at SOS Village. To develop creative writing abilities PSRD school children participated in a competition organized by Alif Laila Book Bus Society at the city level on the topic “Happiness and Sadness”. The school sports team participated in the Fifteenth All Pakistan Festival, Abbottabad and got six first positions, four second and four third positions.

A Visiting Scout Instructor paid three visits and taught the scouts about scouting activities. Pakistan Girl Guides Association, Lahore organized Thinking Day Rally. Ten Guides, along with a Guider attended the rally.

Pakistan Girl Guides Association organized a Guides Summer Camp in Murree at Ghora Gali. Five of our Guides, along with a Guider participated and got certificates of participation. A Boy Scouts camp was arranged by the Regional Head Office. Our scouts, along with Mr. Muhammad Yousaf Anjum, participated in different programs. This time Boy Scouts from seven countries of SAARC participated.

The process of new admissions commenced in June. After the written test all the candidates appeared before the admission board. Admission was given to 25 students.

 

Functions

 

Children Week was celebrated and different events took placed during the week. Independence Day was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm. After the flag hoisting, the students presented national songs and speeches. Members of Rotaract Club (Model Town Branch) distributed sweets and gifts among the students. Mrs. M. H. Sherazee awarded the outstanding students with medals and cups.

The school students and the staff arranged a Mehfil-e-Milad to celebrate 12 Rabi-ul-Awal. Old Students Association arranged a grand Eid gift program for the school students and deserving people.

A recreational trip was arranged by PSRD administration to Sozo Park, Lahore. The staff and students also arranged a Fun Fair in the school hall. Artist Jimmy Engineer arranged a special program for special children at Avari Hotel.

 

Donations and Scholarships

 

Mr. Annes Qari, Chairman of Iqra Educational Trust, London visited PSRD. He gave Rs. 1,200 for janitorial staff, 51 books for the library, two wheelchairs and Rs. 3,000 for books and note-books for Iqra sponsored children.

Mrs. Nashat, member of Iqra Educational Trust, London distributed Eid gifts (clothes and shoes) among their 32 sponsored students.

Mr. Anwar ud Din (donor) and Mrs. Nadia Gillani, Ex-Principal, donated four wheelchairs. Mrs. Kaneez Fatima, Ex-Principal, donated Rs. 20,000 as Eidee. Mrs. Ghazali Iftikhar gave Rs. 20,000 as Eidee. Innerwheel Ladies Club visited the High School. The club members donated Rs. 6000 for school uniforms and sponsored one child. Mr. Sharif Ashraf donated 36 wheelchairs.

 

School Library

 

The school library has approximately 5,500 books. Newspapers, weekly and monthly magazines are available for all.

 

Health and Care

 

During June 2007 two students were operated upon successfully by Dr. Afzal Hussain, surgeon at PSRD Hospital. A female teacher has the responsibility to asses the health of students on a regular basis so that medical care can be provided immediately if needed.
